Abstract

Within the context of specialized medical care, it is crucial to consider that the optimal and appropriate management of evidence-based strategies, through the application of cutting-edge technology, will improve the quality and accessibility of palliative care for terminally ill patients. The objective of this study was to determine the benefits of telemedicine on the accessibility and quality of home-based palliative care compared to conventional care. This research is documentary, qualitative in nature, and based on a systematic review. The methodology follows the guidelines of the PRISMA 2020 protocol (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses). The literature search identified 40 articles registered in different scientific databases that met methodological criteria. Of these, 15 studies were identified that provided detailed information on the research topic, and a narrative summary of the main findings is presented below. Home-based telemedicine represents a key component in the provision of palliative care, considering that the success of this new form of care depends on the technology being adapted to the social and geographical reality from a holistic approach within the functional scope of the national health system.
