Interactive approach to the promotion of physical and mental well-being in the workplace

The research aimed to analyze the feasibility of implementing a gamified physical activity program at the Autonomous Decentralized Government of Mira canton, based on Imogene King’s Goal Attainment Theory, in order to counteract workplace sedentary behavior and promote comprehensive well-being. The study stemmed from concern about the physical and mental risks associated with inactivity in administrative settings. A descriptive study was conducted, with exploratory and explanatory scope, through the application of a structured questionnaire validated by expert judgment to fifty employees. The inductive-deductive method was used to identify perceptions, knowledge, and attitudes regarding gamification and its relationship with occupational health. The results showed a favorable level of knowledge about gamification and a broadly positive perception of its potential to improve physical and mental health. The relationship between sedentary behavior and chronic diseases was widely acknowledged. As a novel aspect, the study highlighted the integration of a nursing theoretical model with participatory and playful strategies within an institutional context. It was concluded that gamification, aligned with processes of interaction, shared goal setting, and continuous feedback, constituted a viable strategy to strengthen motivation, work engagement, and an organizational culture oriented toward self-care. It was recommended to design adaptable, participatory programs consistent with the organizational context to ensure their sustainability and effectiveness.
