Gender-fair education in the teaching of english as a foreign language: a possible educational scenario

Abstract

The gender perspective in education encompasses several areas, from the design of non-sexist textbooks and programs to the development of equal treatment and equal opportunity policies for teachers and educators. In education, it is crucial to eliminate representations, images and discourses that reaffirm gender stereotypes. In the Bachelor's Degree in Education, English, at the University of Cienfuegos, there are not enough activities aimed at developing Gender Fair Education, and the planned activities do not integrate English language skills. The textbooks used to teach English in the Integrated English Practice (IEP) lessons do not include enough texts and activities related to Gender Just Education, students do not have enough knowledge to allude to Gender Just Education, and there are no strategies and research that address Gender Just Education in the English learning process. The following proposal provides a system of activities to promote Gender Fair Education in first year students of the English Language Teaching career of the University of Cienfuegos "Carlos Rafael Rodríguez", these activities are designed for the development of the four linguistic skills with the inclusion of contents that insert the topic in question.
