Impact of IoT and artificial intelligence on tourism services
Keywords:
Artificial intelligence, internet of things, digital tourism, technological transformationAbstract
This research analyzes the transformative impact of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) on tourism services during the 2022-2024 period through a systematic literature review. The results reveal substantial improvements in the operational efficiency of tourism services, evidenced in the optimization of response times and resource management in hotels and tourist destinations. The implementation of these technologies has enabled significant service personalization, reflected in the accuracy of recommendation systems and effective resolution of automated queries through virtual assistants. However, a considerable digital gap is identified between consolidated and emerging destinations, particularly in small and medium enterprises in developing regions, where technological adoption faces significant limitations. The findings also highlight these technologies' contribution to tourism sector sustainability, demonstrated through substantial reduction in energy consumption and optimization of resource usage. The research emphasizes the need to develop comprehensive strategies to facilitate technological adoption in emerging destinations, considering fundamental aspects such as preserving cultural authenticity and local staff training. It concludes that the future success of digital tourism will depend on ensuring an inclusive and sustainable technological transformation that equitably benefits all sector stakeholders, regardless of their size or geographical location.
